This message is for people who are so excited for "Killzone 3" that even with guaranteed access to the coming beta, the wait for the game's February 22 release has become unbearable. Everyone else can go about their day. You're getting yourselves a demo, "Killzone" fans. A single player demo. With jetpacks.
The demo is going online for one and all a week in advance of the game's release, on February 15, according to the PlayStation Blog. PlayStation Plus subscribers will get access a week earlier, because that's the sort of thing they're paying for. The demo download will come in two flavors: 2-D and 3-D. It's also worth noting that only the 2-D version will support splitscreen co-op play. Of course, both versions will include support for the PlayStation Move motion controller.
The demo offers a slice from the middle of the single player campaign, a level called "Icy Incursion." For anyone who might be put off by the idea of getting a first taste of the game from the middle of the story, remember this one important factor: there will be jetpacks. I don't want to live in a world where jetpacks don't automatically make everything better.
For many, the demo will be the first chance players really have to get a feel for the game's controls. "Killzone 2" was a relatively solid game, but more than a few control quirks and issues kept it from ever nearing the blockbuster it could have been. Sony reiterates what they've said before in the demo announcement, that the game's movement and aim mechanics have been spruced up, but there's no experience like firsthand experience.
